Once again the Xmas holiday break is upon us and although I only have 4 days free to play with I'm determined to get in some yak fishing action. I was terribly dissapointed to see predictions for 3 metre seas around the Clarence coast (NSW), however. After having been sidelined from off shore fishing for a few weeks I'm determined to get out there in the hunt for big pelagic fish. It looks to be a similar story along most parts of the east coast within reasonable driving range so it appears as if I have no choice but to seek sheltered waters and try as I might, I just can't think of anything better than Fraser Island.
I've been thinking of putting in a solo expedition in that area for some time so now seems a good a time as any. For several reasons the Xmas break is a fairly lonely affair for me (being that I don't celebrate Xmas in any traditional sense while most others are) I figure that if I'm going to spend that time alone, I may as well do it in style. So come Xmas eve I'm jumping in the car, driving to Hervey Bay and launching out into the Sandy Straight on Xmas day. My target location on the Island will be some where around the Moon point area, where I plan to track down some big-ass golden trevally. I'm really looking forward to it and am hoping that both the weather and fish play nice.
So how about you? What's your Xmas kayak fishing plans? Whatever they are, play it safe and have fun doing it!
