What are Mojo points?

Author: josh

Members have been asking about the purpose of 'mojo' points, which is displayed on each members profile page as seen in this image. Inquiring kayak fisho minds want to know what do those points mean, what is their purpose and how are the earned? I've been a bit vague in my responses so far so I thought now would be a good time to clear up the mojo mystery somewhat. The true purpose and value of mojo points won't be significantly obvious for a while but over time these will play more of a role as their value becomes more apparent to members.

Mojo points are automatically accumulated as you perform certain activities around the site, scored at different values depending on what the activity is. Right now most activities that award mojo revolve around Yakbook and the forum. For example, uploading an avatar will reward you with 4 points. Posting a forum thread will earn 3. Replying to a post will earn you a couple - even thanking someone for their forum post will earn a point as well. Uploading photos in Yakbook will earn points, as will uploading videos, even creating and accepting freind invites will add score, as will sending messages. In time more methods of earning mojo will be added. Essentially, the more active you are around here, the more your mojo will grow.

Mojo points currently only have bearing in a few ways, though the primary purpose of them is yet to be fully revealed (more on that in a moment). Even now your mojo score has some bearing that is relevant to your profile in several ways. For example, the competition I am about to announce is only eligible for members who have a mojo score of 50 or more... relax, you've got 6 weeks to reach it (hint: create a photo gallery and add a few of your best kayak fishing snaps to get your mojo rolling along). Very soon new Yakass stickers will be available for purchase and members with a mojo score of 100 or more will be entitled to a discount. Over time more and more bonuses and perks will become exclusive to members with relevant mojo.

To answer those inquiring minds who have asked if there is a relationship with mojo points and the online kayak fishing game that I have talked about building (which runs under project name 'mojo', scheduled for launch some time in 2012) the answer is yes. The scoring system for that game is fully integrated with your mojo, and once launched, this will have the biggest bearing of all on your mojo level. As you pull in the fish you'll be raking in the mojo wholesale, and the bigger and more plentiful those fish, the faster and higher it will grow. The less mistakes you make, the less mojo will be deducted. Mojo is being designed to be every bit as educational as we're hoping it is entertaining and the basic underlying of it is that ones mojo grows in relation to their performance in the game; by playing through the game they're learning skills, tips and tricks along the way and thus building mojo in the process.

Although it will certainly take some time for this to flesh out and become truly apparent, ultimately (and most of all) your mojo will become an accurate reflection on how active and how long you've been a member of Yakass(V3) as well as - on paper yakass theory at least - roughly how much coastal kayak fishing 'mojo' you really have!
