True to form for this time of year I have missed out fishing the first round of the KFT Super Series located within the wily bream habitat of the Gold Coast. Curious to know just how tough it was this time around, I asked Shane Edyvane to provide a wrap up for us. As Justin would say, "Buckle up!"
KFT returns in 2012 to a new format which expands the three round format to a six round super series, spanning from the Gold Coast through to Southern Moreton Bay, Bribie Island and wrapping up in winter at the Sunshine Coast. Six rounds has meant a more competitive format of the angler of the series and rewards those consistent anglers. The first round kicked off at Pacific Fair right in the heart of the Gold Coast with canals a plenty and a common factor for many rounds of the KFT ‘wind’. With six hours to find a bag of five Bream and hopefully an upgrade or two plenty of anglers presented fish captured on their cameras at the measure in. Out of the top ten anglers six had a full bag and the remaining four had just three fish which was an indicator that the windy conditions made it a challenge for most of the field of fifty one.
What worked on the day didn’t come down to one hot lure but a solid mixture of all offerings and in a tough bite session using your confidence lures did the trick for those who managed to present fish at the end of the day.

Stephen Maas took out the first round with a total length of 147.8cm and only 20.5cm separating the top six anglers, Mick Halliday 2nd followed close behind with 141.8cm and Scott Sandilands after receiving some off season coaching found himself in 3rd place with 137cm, rounding out the remaining top ten places was Warren Cossell 4th with 131.3cm, 5th Pete Bostock, 6th Steve Crawley, 7th Dan Young, 8th John Carroll, 9th Stuart Marchant and 10th Phil Pluis.
Outside of the top ten as usual at the KFT was the BCF Wild Species Gift Card which was Mangrove Jack and amazingly only one was caught by Allan Tully with a 18.5cm specimen that netted him a $200 Gift Card. The BIG BREAM this series is backed up by Pontoon 21 and Luke Rogan presented a 34.7cm Bream to take home those honors. Each round rewards the top ten anglers with a bevy of fantastic kayak and fishing related products from our generous sponsors and Extreme Kayaks being a co-sponsor with TT Lures provides a Fish Bandit package valued over $900 to be given away each round simply by entering and the round one Fish Bandit went to Roger Stevens.
A big thank you goes out to all the KFT sponsors both old and new and without their support the KFT would not be the success it has become. Joining the spread of sponsors for the KFT Super Series is Lowrance, AusTackle, BassAction, FishBoatNav, Custom Tackle Graphics, Z-Man and Pontoon 21. Our regular sponsors of Damiki, Daiwa, Ecogear, TT Lures, Sun 2 Sea, Mako Eyewear, Platypus, Backwater Paddles, Evakool and Cooper Anchors.
