I use the Navionics App since a year and a half and am very happy with it.
I recon it is worth every penny.
They had a bug in the second last update and as soon they became aware of it they took it off iTunes to prevent people to buy a faulty product. They sorted the bug out by now, and the product is back in the store and readily available.

I refuse to call somebody stupid like that right away.
It was a misjudgment . I could name a couple of dessisions you and
I made in our kayaking life which were borderline.
We made it out ok, without incident. If something would have
happend the rest of the kayaking communety would
have called us stupid as well.
To call it stupid also hints towards 'that won't happen to
me'! Which is BS as well accidents and miss judgement
    happens.
I think it is better to approach a story like this with
less judgement, but to analyze it , to think about our
Own safety gear , our habits and to learn from it.

First I want to thank Arson for the video and to to tell us the story honestly.
    Second yeah mistakes were made.
But also remember it was a scenario we would call estuary and not open ocean.
Many of us ease off when it comes to estuary’s. But even in the middle of a big river a similar scenario could unfold. In the middle of winter in a big river up here like the Clearance or Richmond you could be kicked out of your kayak and you might have 100m + to swim to shore. Sit on tops filled up and sank before too.
Also many of us would consider not to go off shore when they forgot some safety equipment like the PLB, Radio or bail pump, while in a river or estuary scenario many of us would go 'I will get away with it today'. Many Australians think Hypothermia is something which will not happen here, but 20C and wind / rain is enough to send you in Hypothermia.

All in all a great chance to think about our gear and habits and learn our lessons.

  • Holger created a new topic Close to Dead video in the forum.
This is the video of Arson, a fellow member on the Hammock Forum.
His kayak trip went wrong and he just made it out alive.
Makes you think and very well worth watching
