Q: Who is behind this website?
A: yakass.net was founded by Josh Holmes, who built it as a rebuild of his old website, yakabout.com.au. There are also numerous regular contributors (listed in the blog section) that produce articles, videos and photo galleries, as well as many members who participate in the forum and 'shout box' live chat.
Q: What is the purpose of this website?
A: yakass.net is a digital shrine to the sport of kayak fishing - an archive of content, media and information related to coastal kayak fishing that is updated regularly. With a mandate to appeal to all manner of kayak fishos, yakass aims to entertain, educate and inspire.
Q: Dare I ask... what is a yakass?
A: Josh coined the phrase 'yakass' as a compound word to have a couple of meanings, most obvious of which is it's relation to the phrase 'jackass'. In this sense, yakass refers to someone who does crazy things from a kayak... such as paddling off shore and catching big fish from it. It's other meaning is more simplistic - a kayak fisho spends a lot of time sitting in the 'yak' - on their 'ass' no less.
Q: What is 'War on Fish?'
A: War on Fish (WoF) is an online kayak fishing show, featuring the latest kayak fishing action as well as various guides and how-to & DIY segments, gear reviews, destination & trip reports as well as special guests in each episode. A lot like the yakass website itself, WoF aims to entertain, educate and inspire.

Q: I am interested in becoming a contributor to the website. How does one become a yakass contributor?
A: If you'd rather see your content posted and archived with other front page content, contact Josh to express your interest.
Q: What is involved as a yakass contributor?
Ones level of involvement is entirely up to them. Although not a paid gig, it is very much a 'you get out what you put in' style arrangement. It's there for people who want a means of sharing thoughts, information and wisdom through written articles and or creating trip reports (even if just to create an online fishing diary for personal use), and or photo galleries, and or want to share their videos, and or use as a platform to obtain and maintain sponsorship and support.
Technically speaking, submitting written articles is simply a matter of writing an article into an article submit form and saving it. Editing is html based code, and not bbcode, though the editing tools and functions are similar. There are alternative ways to add images and video, however, and formatting them requires a bit more thought and effort than a simple forum post.
Q: I see a lot of photos and information on Hobie Adventure Island trimaran kayaks at this site. Where can I read more about fishing from these craft?
A: A great place to start is the AI fishing FAQ
