Today's kayak fishing report brought to you by the colour pink!

As fate would have it, conditions would have better served a trimaran configuration this morning, but with plans to head out wide with Alby convinced me to stick with the Adventure hull only. It was one of those rare occaissions where I was up and at em early, putting in at about 6AM with Alby following soon after. By the time we caught up on the water we'd both hooked up a couple of times, mine resulting in released catches (small pinky snapper) and his biting off. From that point we head out further to sea greatly assisted with off shore Nth west winds, which we knew might be a problem later.

Our luck did not improve in deeper water, despite trolling (pink lures) over some well-known fish holding areas spanning several kilometres. As the wind and water picked and it went from cool to cold we then decided to turn our attention to the waters in close where'd we'd seen more action earlier. On the way in we spotted some promising bird activity, which died down by the time we reached it. This experience left me wishing I'd taken out my yak as a trimaran instead, as it would have made easy work of reaching the action much faster.
There were a fair few dolphins around today, a few turtles as usual and also the odd humpback whale further out to sea. Other than that we didn't spot a lot of surface activity at all. Not long after catching my 3rd fish - this one on a pink Daiwa Bay Rubber jigging lure - I started thinking about what I would do differently next time I fish here, which will be tomorrow morning. With fairly similar conditions predicted I think it's likely I'll be packing my sail, akas and amas next time.
