Backwater Kayak Fishing Video

Testing my new GoPro

The last month or so has been incredibly hectic, all things conspiring to put some distance between myself and my river. Between bad weather, work, parenting responsibilities and silly season preparations, time on the river has been a very rare thing. Everything managed to come together this week, however, to tackle some fiesty upper Brunswick Trevally and in the process give my new GoPro a run and see what I can do with it. I have to say I'm more than happy with the results. Mounted on a RAM variable swivel arm (RAP-B-200-12U) and tripod mount (RAM-B-202AU) just near the front hatch the angle works well, so far so good. It does need some tweaking, maybe a little higher up, maybe a little further back. I could tinker forever with it.

After an initial trial run shooting at 1080p resolution, I have downsized to 960p to take advantage of shooting not only the wider angle (127 degrees field of view in 1080p vs 170 degrees in 960) but also the faster 60 frames a second enabling slow motion to be employed. I have made a rough cut video to test out my results and learn the editing software a little better. The fish in question towed me around the river (often in circles) for almost 7 minutes, putting a nice bend in the 1-2kg Nitro Ultrabream Finesse. The clip is far from Spielberg: my first attempt with the GoPro and my first using this particular editing software. So here it is.
