War on Fish

Yakass War on Fish is a monthly kayak fishing show edited & published by Josh Holmes (founder of Yakass.net), WoF features the latest kayak fishing action (caught on yakass contributor cams), as well as various guides and how-to & DIY segments, gear reviews, destination & trip reports as well as special guests in each episode. With a mandate to appeal to all salt-water fishos, WoF aims to entertain, educate and inspire.

All WoF episodes will be viewable in High Definition at Youtube and Yakass.net. Due to the length and filesize of the show, a reasonably fast web connection will be required for viewers. In an effort to make all episodes available to everyone, WoF episodes will become available on DVD later in the year.

WoF episode 12

Trimaran Tango

Mid-winter kayak fishing never looked so good, what with trimarans with which to go forth and hunt down the fish. In Trimaran Tango a good number of fish a caught over a 3-day fishing session at Woody head and Brooms Head, one of those days fishing alongside Doug and Nick in their Tandem Adventure Island.

It wasn't easy fitting all of the available footage into a 10-minute clip and many fish were omitted from the action. Most of the best ones are shown, however, including a great double hook up on some incredibly tasty pearl perch.

War on Fish will return bigger & better in 2011!

WoF11: Kayak fisherman's basket

Episode 11 underscores the mid-winter kayak fishing experience around the nth coast of NSW with a varied collection of commonly encountered fish. This 10-minute segment covers action spanning 2 days shared between Shark Bay and Brooms Head with Doug and Alby. Some nice whale watching included capped off a reasonably action packed day, that although without producing any monster fish, kept us all eating pretty well.

WoF: Episode 10

Flatwater fishing for flat-headed fish

War on Fish kayak fishing show, episode 10: Flatwater fishing for flat-headed fish on my local waters on the Clarence river Maclean. Featured species, flathead, with a couple of guest species appearances. Plenty of fish caught in this clip, all of them on soft plastic lures - Gulp minnows running hot one day, tiny squidgy flickbaits on the other.

War on Fish episode 9

Clarence Coast overnighter expedition: Launching from Woody Head I sail 18km nth through Shark bay up past Black Rock and back again (camping on the beach in between legs), trolling a lure the entire way. A few fish caught, including tailor, stripey tuna and longtail tuna. Great sailing conditions for the Hobie Adventure Island

WoF - e8: Offshore antics

War on Fish kayak fishing show - episode 8: offshore antics. Using the Adventure Island fully rigged as a trimaran to troll around offshore at Brooms Head & Woody Head, resulting in catches of small mack tuna, not small snapper and average-sized tailor (one of which came perilously close to being sharked next to the yak). Also features the recent marlin hook-up by Louis Swart, condensed down and with some sfx trickery to bring the jumping fish a bit closer into view.

War on fish e7: yak fishing bread and butter

Episode 7 of War on Fish takes place entirely on the Clarence river, predominantly at Rocky Mouth, Maclean (bass, bream & flathead) followed by a few minutes footage from Copmanhurst, where Holger swamps his Adventure Island with water and experiments with a newly installed electrical bilge pump. This river is about 100 metres from my doorstep... I don't know why I don't fish it more often.

War on Fish - episode 6

Episode 6 of War on Fish is now live, fittingly titled 'Monster hookup at Sth West Rocks'. The name of this episode gives much of the content away, and although the fish isn't sighted, this footage will show you what it's like to hook up to an unstoppable beast from the deep (most likely yellowfin tuna). Small fish aren't totally neglected either, with a few small bonito showing up, as well as a massive school of eagle rays. Somewhere along the line I manage to sneak in a few words about how and why I use the RAM revo rod holder, and if you look real close, you might just spot last weekend's east coast tsunami roll quietly underneath me.
