To pick a winner in the Epic Kayaking Safety Tips thread competition I made life easy on myself by putting a bunch of names into a hat and the first name drawn would be declared winner, which just so happened to be Rollerboy. Congradutions mate, you now own an MTI Riptide Type 2 kayaking PFD, as well as a packet of Ikado 102 rubber squid jigs and the new Rapala Mini Charge and Glow. Thanks to Rapala and Maclean Outdoors for supplying the prizes. I'll be in touch via PM to get a delivery address from you.

Although the draw was randomly picked, I was pleased to note that his tip was a good one and simple as it is, is well worth repeating. It was:
Keep emergency gear in dry bags, have a snack that is high in energy and become familiarly and confident in using the emergency equipment you have as there is no time for this in an emergency.
All sound advice really, especially the part about being familiar and confident using the safety gear you carry. Other than to satisfy legal requirements, there's no point carrying safety equipment if you have no idea how to use it properly. After investing money in a particular item, then invest some time learning how it works.
I'll be summarizing all points into the opening thread, adding a few more of my own and then adding others as they are submitted. Thanks everyone for taking part.
